PLEASURE PRINCIPLE
(the p.p.) is a preliminary study, investigating the conditions of possibility
and inevitability of the establishing of the music genre post-RnB.. The p.p.
hopes to make music, not for the club, but for the hours after the after party;
when you finally reach your bed, when you have to lie on your back with eyes
wide open, holding the side rail not to fall even further. These luminal
moments lack a proper soundtrack, and supplying this would be the p.p.’s most
distinguished side quest.
The Pleasure
Principle are based in Copenhagen : Denmark and Београд : Serbia (60/40). The current line-up
consists of Sofian Sortedam / Andreas Hjort (same person). The p.p. is always
on the lookout for new band members and potential collaborators. Currently we
are especial interested in rich and famous male R&B singers feed up whit
fame and fortune, electro-acoustic and classical music composers, visual
artists and others. Feel free to contact us, if you have any specific requests
or any ideas for a reciprocal amalgamate you would like to debate.
The Pleasure
Principle refers to the Freudian psychological concept of the late 19th century
(most notably 1895 and 1900). “The pleasure principle” is the instinctual
seeking of pleasure and avoiding of pain in order to satisfy biological and
psychological needs (seeking immediate gratification, aiming to satisfy
cravings such as hunger, thirst, withdrawal symptoms / abstinence and sex).
Freud contrasted the pleasure principle with the counterpart concept of “the reality
principle”, which describes the capacity to defer gratification of a desire
when circumstantial reality disallows its immediate gratification.
The Pleasure
Principle is also the third studio album - and debut album under his own name -
of the English musician Gary Numan, released in 1979. The p.p. is a tribute to
Numans achievements, to his innovative use of synthetic percussion and
virtuosic achievements on Minimoog synthesizers and Polymoog keyboards.
Furthermore, an American based band (Gina Maio and Kevin Cellar Denton) and a UK house, techno and bass music festival is also named "Pleasure Principle". The P.P. is not the same Pleasure Principle as they are.
